Refund & cancellation policy

Updated September 17, 2026

Try the studio free before choosing a paid plan. This policy explains how refunds work for each kind of purchase.

Membership refunds

A completely unused paid billing period is refundable on request. Once paid benefits have been used, that period is generally non-refundable, with no proportional refund for remaining time or allowances. Verified duplicate, incorrect, or unauthorized charges are refunded. Mandatory consumer rights always apply.

For First Mate, paid use includes generating or substantially revising text, running a manuscript evaluation, generating artwork, exporting with a paid entitlement, or using another paid studio benefit. Signing in, viewing pricing, or requesting support alone does not count. We check usage records for the specific period you ask about.

Monthly and annual subscriptions are assessed against the period actually purchased. An annual payment purchases one year; the monthly equivalent displayed for comparison does not create twelve separate purchases. An entirely unused renewal period can qualify even if you used an earlier period.

Credits and production

A separately purchased credit pack is eligible for a full refund while none of its credits have been consumed. Refunded credits are removed from the account. Partly consumed packs are not ordinarily refundable; a membership refund does not also refund a separate pack.

Text, image, video, and audio generation can incur costs as work runs. Consumed credits and completed production are generally non-refundable. If a job fails but leaves a charge or credit deduction, contact us with the job reference so we can check the record and correct an incorrect charge or deduction. Disliking a successfully delivered creative result alone does not qualify for a refund.

Publishing review and human services

The $99 launch publishing review is a separate purchase for one finished manuscript. Request cancellation before review work begins for a full refund. Once work has begun, requests depend on work performed, any applicable service agreement, and whether we delivered the agreed service. Completed review fees are generally non-refundable.

An editorial rejection does not mean the review was not delivered. Payment buys review and consideration, not acceptance, publication, distribution, sales, or a release date. Human editing, ghostwriting, and managed production follow the cancellation and delivery provisions disclosed in their individual service agreements. Tell us if work is missing, materially defective, or different from the agreed scope so we can assess an appropriate remedy.

Canceling renewals

Cancel in Plan & billing to stop future renewals. Access normally continues through the paid period. Cancellation is not a refund request. Contact support if you cannot access billing controls.

Requesting a refund

Email hello@36seas.com with your account email, payment date, order reference, and reason. Never send a full card number. Other requests are considered individually. Approved refunds return through the original payment channel; bank processing times vary. Contact us about billing concerns without giving up your right to dispute a charge.

For purchases billed by a merchant of record, the receipt identifies the seller and any applicable purchase terms. Contact us first and we will route the request as needed. Books bought from Amazon or another retailer follow that retailer’s return process.

Your rights and existing purchases

Nothing here removes rights or remedies that applicable law makes mandatory. Purchase-specific commitments remain applicable. This policy does not retroactively reduce refund rights promised when you bought a service.
